How do I arrange for my child to attend George Palmer?

You are encouraged to come and visit the School before enrolling your child. Requests to visit the School should be made by telephoning the School office for an appointment. Application forms are avaliable from the School office.

Admission Policy for the Nursery Class

When are children admitted?

It is expected that children will attend nursery for a minimum of three terms and therefore we will offer the three term placements to as many children as possible when possible.

Where a child has transferred to the area and has already attended nursery they will be given a place if one is avaliable.

How do I register?

You may register your child from the age of two. (Sight of birth certificate, passport or medical card is required).

Number of places

There are seventy-eight part-time places. There are no full-time places.

Admissions criteria

The new admissions are decided on the following criteria in order of priority:

  1. Children who have a statement of special educational needs where our School has been named.
  2. Children who are looked after by the local authority - 'in care'.
  3. Children of families living in the area served by the George Palmer Primary School (ref: catchment area map) who have brothers and sisters in the School.
  4. Children of families living in the area served by the School (ref: catchment area map).
  5. Children of families living outside the designated area who have or had brothers or sisters in the School.
  6. Children of families living outside the designated area who will be attending other Schools.

Applications are considered in order of date of registration.

Admissions Policy for Primary School

The Governing Body follows the policy for Reading Borough Council and admits children to full-time school in the September of a school year in which your child will be 5 years old.

This means that all children born between September of one year and August of the following year are in the same year group.

Parents of children who will be 5 later in the school year may defer the place until January or April.

No Infant class may exceed 30 children for the year under class size legislation.

How do I register?

Parents may register their child for the School after their third birthday (sight of the birth certificate, passport or medical card is required).

You will receive an application form from Reading Borough Council to confirm your choice of primary school. This has to be returned in the January before the September that your child is due to start full-time school.

The maximum annual admission figure is 60 (standard number). The total capacity of the primary classes is 420.
