Hello everybody,
Do you know what ticks are? When you do some good work at school you get a tick from your teacher. Sometimes people make a list and tick things when they have done them. Those ticks are good things.
There is another sort of tick. There are lots of creatures like spiders ants and beetles that live in long grass, most of them are okay and do not hurt you. You probably don't know they are there. There are also some very tiny insects called ticks that live in long grass. Dogs and very occasionally people can get ticks. You cannot feel them but they bite you. Mosquitos and fleas bite you to drink your blood but then they let go. Ticks bite you and hold on very tight. They have strong jaws and look like tiny spiders.
I have had a tick. One day Trish was brushing me and she thought I had a big spot. When she looked closely she realised it was a tick. When a tick bites you it's body fills up with your blood like a balloon. They change from being tiny and almost invisible to being like big floppy spots!

Can you see how horrible ticks look? Remember their big fat body is full of blood. They are like tiny vampires. Ticks can give you nasty diseases. There is a special way to remove ticks to make sure you do not leave the head behind. Trish had to talk to the vet to get instructions.
If you have a dog do you check sometimes it to see if it has a tick?
Have you or your pet ever had a tick?
Do you like insects and spiders?
Where do you like to go for walks?
