The Backstage Olympic Heroes - A report |
|
|
Have you ever heard of a game maker? The Olympics can be a very stressful time for competitors, but a lot goes on behind the scenes. Most people don’t spare a thought for how the Olympics manage to run and function so smoothly. The important role of Game Maker cannot be forgotten. It is critical for athletes to arrive on time to compete for the same dream, and who better to take them than the reliable volunteers of the Game Makers. The BBC Waingels school report were lucky enough to talk to Game Maker Adrian Davis, and ask him a few questions.
Why did you volunteer to be a Games Maker? ‘’The Olympics are unlikely to be back in Britain in my lifetime. I just had to take this opportunity to make London 2012 the best Olympic Games ever!’’.
Many people volunteer for the honour of being a Game Maker, but only a select few get the privilege to participate in the Olympics. After various types of trials and training, the 2012 Olympic Game Makers were selected.
What are the qualities a good Games Maker needs? ‘’To be very friendly, approachable and helpful. We are also expected to be alert and proactive in highlighting any problems we find. We will be working long, hard shifts so commitment and dedication is important’’.
If you could meet one sporting celebrity, who would you like to meet? ‘’Mark Cavendish. I am a keen cyclist and used to race. It is awesome what he has achieved so quickly’’. |
