The use of GIS has recently been developed by the SGN because it is now a requirement of the new KS3 Geography curriculum. A recent SGN-western meeting looked at GIS solutions available, see presentation here 
. Free GIS solutions on the web have also been investigated and this handout 
produced for various courses and training in Suffolk. David Rayner has also presented a course outlining free GIS in the northern area. His handouts can be found in the list of resources above.
