P.E.
Our school believes that physical education and physical activity, experienced in a safe and supportive environment is a vital and unique contributor to pupil’s physical development and well being. We aim to provide a range of physical activity and extra curricular opportunities. The physical education curriculum is intended to provide for pupils increasing self-confidence in their ability to manage themselves and their bodies with a variety of movement situations. Progressive learning objectives, combined with sympathetic and varied teaching approaches endeavour to provide stimulating, enjoyable and challenging learning situations for all pupils. Through the selection of differentiated and logically developed tasks, it is intended that all pupils irrespective of their ability will enjoy success and be motivated to further develop their individual skills and potential and go onto live healthy and active lives.
A balance of individual and group; co-operative and competitive activities caters for the preferences, strengths and needs of each pupil. Such activities, experienced within a range of areas aim to provide a broad base of movement knowledge, skill and understanding, whilst promoting an ability to work independently or with increased independence and respond appropriately to others.
The activities offered and the teaching approaches adopted will also provide pupils with opportunities to develop their creative and expressive abilities through improvisation and simple problem solving. Pupils will be encouraged to appreciate the importance of a healthy lifestyle and begin to understand the factors that influence health and fitness. |
