Technical Notes

If you have problems viewing any files on the site please check whether your PC has the following (free) software installed.

For the best experience using this website we recommend that you use Internet Explorer 6 or later, or the latest version of the free Firefox browser, from www.mozilla.com .

You should also have your browser settings set to check for new versions of pages on every visit to the page. (In Internet Explorer click Tools/Internet Options/Settings/Every Visit to the Page.)

It will also help if you have the most recent versions of Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Reader installed on your computer. You can download both of these free of charge from www.adobe.com .

Editing content with the Java editor requires Sun Java to be installed on your computer, which you can download free of charge from www.java.com .

Java is used to edit content on some pages - the first time of use you may be asked to install Ephox EditLive. The Sound Recorder facility also uses a Java program which you will be asked to install on first use.

If you use a pop-up blocker, please turn it off for www.school-portal.co.uk.

Some documents on the website may be in Microsoft Office format - Word, Powerpoint, or Excel.  If you do not have Microsoft Office you can still view these documents by downloading the appropriate Viewer from the Microsoft website (Go to www.microsoft.com and search for Viewer).

We sometimes use the free software Microsoft Photostory 3 to create video presentations out of digital photos.  In order to view both these types of videos you will need Windows Media Player 10 or later installed on your computer, available from the Microsoft website.
