WELCOME MESSAGE

The beginning of Key Stage 4, at the start of year 10 is a very important time. The following two years of the curriculum lead to a range of qualifications at the end of Year 11 and these will enable students to progress on to further courses in our Sixth Form. Students will also be able to follow courses at college or to progress into the world of work.

The particular combination of courses followed by a student during Years 10 to 13 is called a Learning Pathway, a programme which is personalised to fit the needs and interests of each individual.

The student, with the help of his or her parents, carers and teachers, will have considerable say in the choice of their Key Stage 4 courses. As they progress, students will gain the knowldge, skills, and experience necessary for the next steps of their journey through the rest of their school life and onwards into further education, training or employment.

It is an exciting time!

This booklet is designed to give information about the pathways, courses and qualifications available at The Emmbrook and elsewhere. It is a guide designed to help students to select the learning pathway which will enable them to achieve their potential.

Our aim is to ensure that all students are on courses that:-

  • they know they can do well in
  • are in subjects they enjoy studying
  • reflect their interests and personal qualities
  • help them to learn in the best way for each individual
  • keep options open for the future.

To help in this process we welcome parents and students to our Pathways for Success Evening on Tuesday 19th January 7.00pm in the Main Hall.

We wish all our students a productive time in researching and choosing their Pathways to Success in Key Stage 4.

Jane Lant
Acting Deputy Head
