Geography

Geography in the National Curriculum is concerned with the study of places, the human and physical processes which shape them and the people who live in them. Children will develop geographical knowledge and understanding, and gain a sense of identity through learning about the UK and its relationship with other countries.

When children first arrive in school they will begin to learn about the locality in which they live and the human activity which shapes their lives. They will begin to learn about the places and the countries of the UK. They will learn the basic skills necessary for using maps and understanding the physical processes which affect our landscape. As they progress they will begin to learn more about the world around them through work on other cultures and countries outside their immediate environment.
