A message from the Headteacher:
Brookfield is an over-subscribed 11 to 18 Comprehensive School with a student population of 1,340 including 320 in the Sixth form. We converted to Academy status on 1 April 2011 retaining our specialism as a Sports College. We use this status to work even more closely with our community. We are a school which tries to offer as many opportunities as we can to the young people whom we serve. They are given every encouragement to fulfil their potential in many different areas, including academic, musical, sporting and community work. We firmly believe in the education of the whole person and we seek to develop intellectually curious and socially aware young people.
Sixth form students play a significant part in the wider life of the school. Many work with younger students and in partner primary schools, and are encouraged to succeed in community projects. The strong relationships built up within the school help to provide a safe, happy environment where all students can prosper. Year Councils and a whole School Council give the students a forum to voice opinions and concerns and to share in fund raising both for school and charity. In recent years, thousands of pounds have been raised for local and national causes, reflecting a concern for others which is highly gratifying.
It is a school which celebrates excellence in all things. At Brookfield people matter and everyone in the school is valued. The school's pastoral structure and discipline are rooted in care, friendliness and good humour, and great stress is placed on the partnership between school and home. The Brookfield Parents and Friends Association reflect this. It has successfully provided a mini-bus, refurbished the school Hall, and created covered seating areas for students around the site.
Brookfield is well resourced, with increasingly impressive facilities. A new Sports Hall was opened in 2006, which has created the opportunity for new activities in the PE curriculum, as well as allowing us to develop a full programme of Community activities. A new Sixth form block was also opened at this time, providing state of the art facilities for Post 16 students. Every teaching space has an interactive white board, and the student to computer ratio is now better than the government recommendation. Each year we try to further improve the learning environment for our students.
The school was inspected by OFSTED in May 2008. They judged Brookfield to be an 'outstanding' school.
This web-site is constantly evolving. We hope it provides information and insight into the work of the school, as well as being an interactive learning environment for our students.
