Setting Tasks should normally be done at the Class Group level as this makes it easier for you to select the students that you want to do the task.
To set up a new task, go to the class that you want to set the task for and scroll down on the right hand side to find the Control Panel.
Click on Resources to open up the resources window and then select the task icon to open the task window.
At the top of the task window you must fill in the fields with a star by them, other fields are optional. It is most important to select Open in the Status field, otherwise the task will not be available. You must supply a hand in date but you can tick the box to allow late submissions if you like.
Creating a marksheet is a good idea - this will allow the students to submit their work on the computer and you will then be able to access all their work from the marksheet. This can be a useful way to allow you easy access to work created in school as well, for example if students are creating powerpoints they can submit them when they are in the Library or IT room and then next lesson you can view them all via your marksheet in your classroom.
There are some other fields where you can enter notes for yourself or upload files associated with this task if you wish.
Then at the bottom of the window you will get to the section where you select the students who are to complete the task. You can tick All to get all the students in the class, it is worth checking you have the correct names! Alternatively you can select individual students, which might be a good way to provide differentiated tasks for different abilities.
You can also tick the box to create a task forum so that students can discuss the task you have set, or allow students to see work other students have submitted, and even comment on other students work.
Finally scroll right down to the bottom and click the Add Task button to create the task.
The task will create a task folder in each student's Resources area. They will submit work simply by uploading a file into that task folder.
