Enjoying learning outdoors

Summer
Term - April 2010

Welcome back to the Summer Term.  Hopefuly you are all  refreshed and have been able to make the most of the glorious and sustained good weather.  It certainly makes a change and was much needed.

Towards the end of last term, a number of governors visited the school to join children in class and to discuss their learning with them afterwards.  They were pleased to report that from a complete range of children the vast majority were really positive about their spring projects and they talked confidently and  enthusiastically about their learning.

On the return to school, you will notice that our school garden has been extended.  As part of our ongoing support from Food for Life we are aiming to include as many children as possible in growing opportunities.  As well as the larger garden, KS2 classes now have planters outside so that each class can grow-their-own... whatever that might be!

The curriculum this term will centre around the outdoors and children will be given a number of planned opportunities to learn  outside. We will helping the children to appreciate and care for their environement through their learning.  They will be encouraged to take greater personal responsibility, work in partnership with each other and make decisions that will contriubute positively to their school community.  Foundation Stage and KS1 children will be focusing upon Forest Schools and KS2 children will all be working on a project to improve their school grounds.  As in previous terms, a number of meaningful, inspiring and challenging activities will combine curriculum areas as the children work towards quality outcomes.  Further details will follow in class letters.
