December was a busy month with many highlights.  It was unfortunate that we had to close a day early at the end of term, but I am sure that the children enjoyed the chance to build snowmen and we did manage to complete all our Christmas concerts and plays.  It was a month when we were able to reach out to our Community with Christmas singing at Cross Lane House and ‘Tuesday Club’ at the village hall, our choir and flute players performing at ‘The Lights of Love’ Church Service, a KS2 performance at the Ass
Dear Parent/Carer,

I think that we will all be relieved to experience some warmer weather soon. As I look back over the last month, although we initially enjoyed the snow, it gave us a very disruptive start to the new term and, like the rest of the workforce, we seem to have spent most of our time ‘catching up’!  However, we are now back on track and ready to embrace learning and teaching with our usual enthusiasm.

In January, Key Stage 2 pupils were introduced to the workings of an orchestra through a project called ‘Musicquest’.  They attended a workshop run by two members of the Philharmonic Orchestra who let the children try out their musical instruments.  This was followed by the children attending a performance of the full Philharmonic Orchestra at the White Rock Theatre, Hastings.

This month we have a performance of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ from a professional theatre group, which will be watched by the whole school.

The arts are ‘alive and kicking’ at Ticehurst and Flimwell School!

embly Halls ;The Big Sing’, and carol singing around the village.   We also had an enchanting performance from our KS1 pupils of’The Foolish King’. Our Christmas performances were finalised with a Carol Service in the last week at the Church.  We were particularly pleased that so many parents were able to join us at this service.

Pluto class were very fortunate to have the opportunity to attend a children’s version of Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’ at Glyndebourne Opera House last month.  It was interactive and there was a ‘question and answer’ session at the end.  Our children were particularly intrigued as they are learning the flute as part of their music curriculum.

In the Spring, we look forward to Science week and the roll-out of our ‘Creative Partnership’ Science project with local company ‘Nikwax’.
We are delighted to tell you that we have been awarded second place in Courier newspaper's 'Cash for Schools' competition and will be presented with a cheque for £1000 at a school assembly. The money will go towards an outdoor science laboratory which we hope to have installed by September, 2010.

Finally, I would like to wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year and look forward to sharing our successes and challenges in the year ahead.
