Welcome
Osborne Middle School is a friendly and caring school. We aim to develop a partnership with parents, pupils, the school and the community to break down the barriers to learning, to provide a learning environment that is stimulating and safe, where pupils are encouraged to be both independent and co-operative learners, and where learning is enjoyable. “Students' good personal qualities and friendliness contribute much to making the school a pleasant and purposeful place. As one student said, 'They make you work hard here but I really like it'.” Ofsted May 2009
We want every child to make good progress in their learning journey, but recognise that individual pupils may need different types of encouragement and support or extension and at different times of the year. “Students make good progress overall during the four years they are in the school. This is appreciated by parents; as one commented, 'We are continually amazed by the level our children achieve across numerous subjects'. They leave in Year 8 with standards that are above expectations for their age.” Ofsted May 2009.
Osborne Middle School is a community school and we will strive to work with our local communities to do the best we can for the children who pass through our doors, and to develop education beyond that specified in the National Curriculum quoted.
There are over 400 people working within our school, and many more who work with us. We have over 600 parents and a lot of other adults such as grandparents, aunts and uncles who are all concerned that the children who come here do their best and are safe. If we work together we will have a better chance of doing this.
In order to prepare for the responsibilities of later life, I strongly believe that children need opportunities to take responsibility in school. This needs to be in an atmosphere where they are not afraid to make mistakes when they exercise judgement and show initiative. We aim to create such an atmosphere, taking care to praise good effort in all activities.
Children at Osborne have a right to an environment of quality – both in teaching and peer group behaviour. Monitoring the effectiveness of provision through our policies, ensure that we strive for that goal.
I hope that your children eventually leave Osborne Middle School having made really good progress in their learning and take with them happy memories of their time here.
John Edney, Head Teacher Autumn 2009
